What I Like In My Kitchen

logo

I love grocery shopping. Well, not really; I like having a lot of food. I like seeing the mottled yellows and reds of apples and peaches, the bananas length, a ripe cantaloupe with its grainy rind, hinting at the orange treasure within, blueberries stocked in the fridge, a yellow or red pepper, leafy greens and pointillist broccoli in the crisper drawer, and lots of other fresh fruits and vegetables.

I like looking in the cupboards and seeing boxes of cereal, bags of chips, raisins, honey, Moroccan sardines, dates, cookies, bread crumbs, canned vegetable juice, unopened salsas, jams and preserves, sauces, breads, the whole shebang.

I stock my refrigerator with juices, orange and grapefruit, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, sliced meat and Munster or Swiss cheese for sandwiches, mauve beets with their leafy greens, applesauce, peanut butter, fresh leftovers (is that an oxymoron?) ground beef, chicken breasts, and everything else I need for the week’s dinners.

But because it’s such a schlep to the grocery store, I like to buy food online and have home delivery food. It’s much easier, and when I buy food online, I feel more inspired to buy a variety of things because of the way that they’re categorized, whereas when I go to the grocery store, I’m often overwhelmed.
